Easiest (and least messy) way to cook bacon

Let me just put it out there:

I love bacon.

On BLTs, with eggs, in omelets, on potatoes, on salads, in soups, with veggies ...pretty much any way I can get it. I even tried a bacon donut the other day, and it wasn't horrible.

The problem with bacon is that it makes a mess and it makes your whole house (and clothes) smell like bacon. Which, I guess could be a good thing or a bad thing.

Cooking bacon on the stove is out of the question. The splatters all over the stove top and floor (and hands!) are torture. Then add in how the bacon grease is completely burnt and unusable by the time you get to the last strips. Yuck.

You can also cook it in the oven, which I hear produces a great piece of bacon. But again, the mess. I don't like having to clean any more big cookie sheets than I have to.

Solution:

A bacon plate.

I bought mine at Target, but you can get one on Amazon for less than $10 - link here

All you have to do is lay a few strips on the plate, cover it with a paper towel and cook it in the microwave for 3ish minutes.

The bacon is crispy (so perfect for sandwiches) and the mess is completely contained in the plate. The plate gets warm, but I just use part of the paper towel to carry it out of the microwave.

I cook a whole package at a time, and freeze the cooked pieces in a zip bag. To reheat, just lay a slice or two on a paper towel and microwave for 15ish seconds. They're perfect for BLTs or crumbling on soups or salads. So convenient. I love freezing stuff.

And then you have a nice manageable plate of bacon grease that you can easily pour into a container and save, or you can use it when you make refried beans in the slow cooker!

The tray is dishwasher safe, so I just give it a bit of a rinse, and put it in the dishwasher.

In my opinion, the easiest and least messy way to make bacon.  And now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go make a BLT...

  1. My kids eat bacon like chips. I can't buy it very often for that reason. Ha! But seriously, I need one of those pans!

    1. Nothing wrong with eating bacon like chips... ;) Once you have one of those plates, you forget how you ever lived without one!

  2. I would love one of those pans! We don't buy bacon often at all, but last time we did, I think I ate about half the package myself in two days, with my boyfriend and daughter barely having any at all.

  3. Got this pan at walmart for really cheap along with my microwave egg poacher. There are complications with the egg poacher though

    1. That's great that you found it at Walmart! I've never had any luck with egg poachers either... oh well. :) Thanks for commenting!

  4. Just a thought...if you line a sheet pan with tin foil, it's very easy clean up, when cooking in the oven!
