DIY Moss Mirror – Step-By-Step Tutorial

Teresa

I love all things cottagecore. Not sure what that means? I’ve got you!

Cottagecore is an aesthetic pertaining to anything you might find in a little cottage in an enchanted forest. Cottagecore means teacups, plants, flowers, old books, fairy lights (and the fairies that come with them), etc. You get it!

This DIY moss mirror is straight out of a fairytale and will bring joy to people of all ages. You’ll be asking your reflection “who’s the fairest of them all?” in no time! And it goes great with our DIY Mossy Mushroom Wreath project.

Read on to learn how to make this gorgeous mirror yourself.

Supplies Needed:

  • A mirror (preferably an ornate style, but not necessary!)
  • A hot glue gun and hot glue sticks
  • Moss (I used real moss but this is up to you)
  • Faux flowers
  • Faux butterflies
  • Faux mushrooms
  • Fairy lights
Moss Mirror supplies.

Step One:

Get your mirror ready. You’ll want to clean the glass before you start so that you have a clean surface to work with! Grab your moss and arrange it how you like it before you glue it down.

This will ensure that you have the moss exactly how you like it before you permanently fix it to the mirror.

Step Two:

Take your hot glue gun and begin to glue your moss to the mirror, going one piece at a time and being careful not to burn yourself!

I found that it looked best to have some of the moss overlapping from the inner frame onto the mirror itself. So, I glued a few pieces to the mirror portion as well as the frame portion.

Step Three:

Grab your fake mushrooms and place them wherever you like them best. I decided to put them towards the bottom of the mirror, almost like they were growing up out of the forest floor!

Once you have them in position, use your hot glue gun to fix them into place.

Take a piece of moss and glue it over the bottoms of the mushrooms to make them look more natural and blended in.

Step Four:

Take your butterflies and begin placing them where you like, again waiting to glue them down until you’ve decided on placement.

Then, take your hot glue gun and glue them into place.

Step Five:

Take your fake flowers and begin to place them, just like you did with the other items, and hot glue them into place wherever you decide they look best.

Step Six:

Take your fairy lights and begin to string them around the butterflies, mushrooms, and flowers.

You don’t need to glue these down, just take your time bending the wire into place behind enough items so that it will stay in place.

Step Seven:

You can either glue the battery pack of the fairy lights under some more moss, or you can glue it to the back of the mirror, which is what I did.

I glued it towards the edge of the back so that the remote that came with my lights would still work with them, and it worked like a charm!

Step Eight:

Find a spot to place or hang your moss mirror and enjoy your magical new decor! This mirror provides soft lighting at night and a burst of enchanted nature during the day, so it looks great anywhere. Go live your best cottagecore life!
